Occasional Use Pumping
Occasional use, manual breastpumps are best for the following situations:
- Occasional missed feeding: If you need a breastpump for occasional separations from your baby, or if you need to use a breastpump (on average), no more than once per day.
- Occasional separation: For separations of less than 5-6 hours/day, a manual or an electric pump will meet your needs. The key to protecting milk supply is expressing milk or breastfeeding every 2-3 hours while away from baby.
- Flat or inverted nipples: A manual breastpump is good for this, but an electric pump is best suitable.
